Flower Food

The Martha Stewart Show, March 2010

Extend the life of flower arrangements using this simple mixture of ingredients found around the house.

Tools and Materials

  • 1 gallon water
  • 2 cups corn syrup
  • 4 teaspoons bleach
  • 4 teaspoons white vinegar
  • Jug for mixing

Flower Food How-To
1. In jug, combine water, corn syrup, bleach, and white vinegar. Gently mix. Use 1/4 cup per vase of flowers.

    Recipe on Internet says 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tsp. bleach to 1 gallon water. Should last indefinitely, and sugar is less expensive than corn syrup.

    The show said 2 gal of water, and 4 TABLESPOONS each vinegar and bleach. Also said to use 1-2 tablespoons mix to each vase. WHICH IS IT???? Please reply soonest.!!!
