Personalized Magnets and Tins

Martha Stewart Living, May 2006

Brighten your desktop by slipping a picture of a familiar face into the lid of a round tin. Here, a black-and-white photograph was added to a small metal tin with a glass lid (available at crafts stores in assorted sizes). It can hold pins, paper clips, and the like. Or fill it with pebbles, and use it as a paperweight. Round tins can also function as magnets.

To make the tins, print black-and-white photos onto ink-jet paper. Center lid on photo, and trace with pencil. Using scissors, cut along the inside of the traced line. Place photo in lid, and tape it to the lid's inner rim. To magnetize, glue a magnet to the bottom of an empty container, and stick to a metal surface

I just got the email about the metal tin with photo on top of it. I see the last comment was 12 Dec 2010-----so I checked Michael's - tin not available: Comment 19 Sept 2010 - find them at Ikea---tin not available: These emails are so old by time I get them, no way to find supplies to get anything-- to do anything. GRRRRR. I hate re-runs!

You should be able to find the tins at Micheal's. They have them in various sizes. They are great at your desk. Put a medal strip on the wall by your desk and after you put the magnet on the bottom you can stick them up to hold pins, paper clips, postage stamps, and the ever popular paper weight. They are easy to make and make great gifts.
