Resources: We used Ultrasuede from Field's Fabrics, 616-455-4570.
Materials
- Scissors
- Ultrasuede in various colors
- Tissue pouch template
- Adhesive, such as Fabri-Tac
- Glue
- Button
- Scalloped edgers
Steps
-
Step 1 of 6
Cut a 6-by-7-inch piece of ultrasuede. Print the tissue pouch template and cut out the shapes.
-
Step 2 of 6
For the sandpiper design, start with a different color of ultrasuede, trace the shape of the bird's body and feather on it, and cut out. Apply a dab of adhesive to the back of the body and glue onto the center of the large piece of ultrasuede.
-
Step 3 of 6
Glue wing to the body and a small button to the head for an eye.
-
Step 4 of 6
Topstitch a single line along the center of the wing; topstitch two straight lines for the legs.
-
Step 5 of 6
Fold in the long ends of the piece so they meet in the middle and secure in place with a bit of tape. Don't use pins, as they leave permanent holes.
-
Step 6 of 6
Topstitch along each short end with scalloped edgers.
Should the last sentence read "Topstitch along each short end and trim with scalloped edgers"? Unless I'm mistaken, 'edgers' are scissors that leave a design instead of a straight edge.
These instructions are very confusing and poorly laid out! I agree with Virginia about the missing # 3.
I would expect directions for kids' crafts to be much more clear. I wouldn't give this to teens to do on their own without rewriting the instructions.
Summer Dance, check out the no-sew tissue pouch , which was a craft of the day last month. http://www.marthastewart.com/article/tissue-pouch There's a photo of the back there. it's just a slit down the back, but on that one you actually overlap by about 1/2".
They should have put the number 3 right before the word 'fold'.
Nice but would like to see flip side
