Chalkboard Calendar
Martha creates a chalkboard wall calendar.
A home office is the ideal spot for a family planner. Six weeks' worth of squares in a variety of shades can accommodate several schedules. The entire wall is also coated with chalkboard paint for more memos. Start with a base coat of store-bought black chalkboard paint, then mix in varying amounts of white chalkboard paint for lighter squares.

Wall Calendar How-To
We chose 4 shades of paint to make our calendar. You can use as few as 2 shades for a checkerboard pattern.
1. Paint entire wall with store-bought black chalkboard paint; let dry for 1 to 2 hours.
2. Mark the perimeter of the calendar with a pencil (to accommodate 8-inch squares, ours measured 48 inches high by 56 inches across).
3. Using painters' tape, mark off the B squares according to the diagram below.

4. Make B paint by mixing 4 parts black chalkboard paint with 1 part homemade white chalkboard paint. Paint B squares. Remove tape. Let dry about an hour.

5. Repeat process for C and D squares using the proportions pictured above.

Or you could simply paint the wall with IdeaPaint, and use your whole wall as a whiteboard! Check it out: http://www.ideapaint.com/
Fabulous idea...I have (3) circular cork boards up on my kitchen wall for each child of mine...this is more "grown-up"....LOVE IT!
I just completed this in a checker board pattern for easy. I did two coats primer and four cats chalk board paint. I measured of slightly smaller squares because my wall is smaller than what she had measured. Then I used 2 cups chalk board paint to 1 white latex primer and 2 tbsp of tile grout per video's instructions. I assumed the texture has to do with the chalk board element. It's turned out beautifully! Although the process stretched out over a few days, the total time spent was minimal and
I did this with only 2 colors and it took me 3 days. The paint bled right under the tape, so I had to tidy the whole thing by hand with a tiny paintbrush. It's beautiful but it was alot of work
I think I get this enough to pull it off, but there's a couple things I dont understand. The video says the white is latex paint, and the supply list says white chalkboard paint. Will the end result not be as effective with the chalkboard paint diluted with latex ? The supply list also doesn't say anything about grout. What's this for, and can it be skipped ?
Great idea plus it looks good too. How about a dry-erase board for those not wanting to deal with chalk dust? Any further ideas to expand on this?
I love the look of this and the idea, not sure I could ever get the lines that straight in a month of Sunday's.
I did this with chalkboard magnetic paint, which enabled me to use magnets to post notes as well as write on the board with chalk. It's very fun to have in the kitchen so we can make shopping and menu lists as well as keep the family calendar
