Stepping Stone Planting

Introduction

A stone path through a garden is not only attractive, it also provides the perfect opportunity to fill in the spaces around the stones with an assortment of plants. Gardener Alice Tomasello of Marders nursery in Bridgehampton, New York, has a number of suggestions. Some plants you might consider using include Viola koreana, with beautiful silver markings on its foliage; Ajuga reptans, also known as bugle weed; Alchemilla pumila; Sagina subulata, or pearl wort; and Selaginella aurea, or spike moss.
