Vampire Bat Cupcakes

Beware: These easy-to-make vampire bats may fly right off the cupcake and into your mouth.

Introduction

Materials

  • Black licorice wheels
  • Black gumdrops
  • Red nonpareils
  • Cupcakes (use our recipe or buy them pre-made)

Steps

  1. Step 1

Select Candy. For each vampire bat, you'll need one black licorice wheel, a black gumdrop, and 2 red nonpareils.

  2. Step 2

Create Wings.  With scissors, cut licorice wheel in half and then into 2 wing shapes. Cut off sides of gumdrop to form an oval-shaped body for the bat.

  3. Step 3

Attach Wings to Body.  Press the wings into the sticky parts where the gumdrop has been cut. Cut ears from remaining licorice wheel. With a toothpick, poke holes on face, and insert ears. The toothpick's tip will get sticky, so use it to pick up the tiny nonpareils and place them on the bat's face. Assemble creatures on pre-made cupcakes, or use our recipe for chocolate cupcakes and easy white icing.
