Two-Tone Pillow

These covers pair lustrous lining fabric (sold by the yard) with wool or other matte yardage. For a colorful seam, the lining's selvage edge is on display.

  • Disappearing-ink pen
  • Menswear fabric (such as wool)
  • Lining fabric (silk or synthetic)
  • Iron
  • 12-inch pillow insert

  1. Step 1

Using disappearing-ink pen to mark measurements, cut two 13-inch squares from menswear fabric.

  2. Step 2

From lining fabric, cut a 13-inch-long rectangle, with the desired width, so that the selvage edge runs along 1 long side.

  3. Step 3

Lay lining-fabric rectangle on 1 square, right sides up, so the long, nonselvage edge of rectangle aligns with edge of square.

  4. Step 4

Lay second square on top, right side down. Pin fabric pieces together. Stitch around perimeter with a 1/2-inch seam allowance, leaving a 10-inch opening on 1 side. Turn pillowcase right side out. Press pillowcase flat around the edges.

  5. Step 5

Insert pillow insert; slip-stitch to close opening.
