Asian-Inspired Christmas Tree

Created By: Johnny Miller

Who says Christmas trees have to be fir? Inspired by the bonsai collection at the Arnold Arboretum in his native Boston, Martha Stewart Living's Kevin Sharkey created this enchanting roost using an artificial bonsai.

Spray-painted gold and accented with glitter, it rises out of a traditional pot topped with moss and snow. Japanese-lantern ornaments provide a pleasing change of scale, but the crowning glories of this tree are the birds -- coated in glitter and grouped in flocks of like colors.

I decorate a wreath every year for our foundation's Extreevaganza. I thought I'd make the Bonsai tree this year. I couldn't find the small Japanese ornaments or Chinese cookie ornaments any where. HELP!!!! margaret albert

Of all the decorated trees featured in Martha Stewart magazine, this is my absolute favorite! Kevin Sharkey's design is exhilarating and fresh and the birds add the extra dimension of story element. The tree doesn't just brighten a corner, it's full of life! I hope Martha does more decorating with bonsai and birds. I am still looking hoping to find an artificial bonsai that I can use to make this tree.

Has anyone found the lantern-shaped ornaments at their local Macy's? If so, please tell me which store so I can call and order some. Martha ornaments are not available at this year for some reason.
