Saint Patrick's Day Cupcakes

The three-leaf clover, or shamrock, became linked with Ireland through the missionary work of Saint Patrick, who used its trefoil pattern to symbolize Christianity's Holy Trinity. In celebration of the holiday that commemorates the saint's death (March 17), place a sprig or two of clover atop each cupcake decorated with buttercream icing. Remove sprig before eating.

    They are using a clover, not a shamrock. Clovers are actually edible but they are bitter.

    This is visually so appealing. I think I'm going to use the fruit roll up shamrock with a mocha or coffee cupcake, like the one on an earlier website. :D
    Wait, what if I get crazy and cut out dough in heart shapes and place it like a clover and brush it with green food coloring? I wish I could take off work to do this, haha.

    BEWARE....I heard tha some of the shamrock we have in North America can be toxic because of the build-up of oxalates that can occur.
    Best not to use the leaves from a live plant for decoration.

    The "shamrocks" are from the garden. I think that's why it says "Remove sprig(clover) before eating." !

    What was used to make the shamrocks on the top of the cupcakes. It almost looks like some sort of 'fruit' roll up, stamped out.

    mykele how ungrateful can you get? I donn n n n n n t care how Martha gives us recipes, tips, etc., all is great advice. What is it you do when cleaning? Just throw the stuff back where it came from after scrubbing and taking the dust off? Itn n n n n n s nearly spring. My Momma always had us cleaning house from floor to ceiling n n n n n n organizingn n n n n n every nook and cranny. Guess Martha and my Momma speak the same language.?

    If you have one of Martha's papercutters in the clover design you could "punch" a fruit roll up and use that. I'd oil (cooking oil) the cutter first to keep it from getting gummed up

    Frosting was delicious! Actual cupcake was a little to hard and not light and fluffy like I imagined they would be. Little dissapointed Martha! :(

    Dip a shamrock cookie cutter in green food coloring and lightly touch the top of the white frosting - for grown ups that don't like gummy things!

    you can also cut the clover out of jell candy that's been rolled out flat or use a green fruit roll up.

    You could also use some green fruit roll-ups and cut out a shamrock. :)
