Felt Gift Envelopes

Compact discs, blank books, pencils, or diaries are ideal items to offer in these attractive pockets that can be saved and used as protective coverings. Use odd bits of ribbon (wide grosgrain works well) or felt for these gift wraps. If using ribbon, determine the amount needed by the size of the gift (allow about twice the length of the gift).

  • Wide grosgrain ribbon
  • Felt
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Gifts
  • Note cards

  1. Step 1

Sew a line of stitches on ribbon ends to avoid fraying, and then sew ribbon into desired pocket size.

  2. Step 2

Insert present, and close with velvet or gauze ribbon. If using felt to make the wrap, sew two pieces together into the shape of a pocket, then make scalloped edges with pinking shears.

  3. Step 3

Tie with a bow, and attach a personalized note.

Very fast and easy, thank you for the wonderful gift wrapping idea! I used snaps to close the flap and it turned out very nicely. I will be doing this again for sure!

This project doesn't tell you what to do with the felt!!! Is it only a ribbon project using the felt to embellish or a felt project using the ribbon??? How much bigger than your item is suggested in cutting the felt, what about the flap size or us there one? Is it left open on one side? And what is sew ribbon into desired pocket size??? Sew on which side of pocket? Not a clear pattern!!!!

What does " then sew ribbon into desired pocket size" mean?

Awhile back I had to make several dozen of these and I switched to fabric glue instead of sewing. Much faster and easy too. Pinking the edges makes them look great

This is such a good idea! I have so much felt I don't know what to do with it, so now I will package Christmas gifts with felt pouches.
