Tools and Materials

  • Bone template
  • Black canvas
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Pair of jeans
  • Scissors
  • Hand-sewing needle
  • Black embroidery thread

Exposed-Bone Jeans How-To
1. Following bone template as an example, paint bones onto black canvas, sizing to match the thigh or calf section of jeans.

2. Cut a vertical slit in jeans at thigh or from knee to ankle; place painted canvas inside jeans and adjust, lining up behind slit. Thread a needle with black embroidery floss and stitch randomly around outside of slit to secure bone "patch" to jeans.

3. Rip, tear, and distress slit to expose more of bone, and add more messy stitches, if desired. Wash and dry jeans to gnarl the raw edges of the denim before wearing.
