Tech Gadgets for your Health

The Martha Stewart Show, January 2008

The gadgets featured in this segment are some of the hottest new health gadgets on the market, aimed at helping people lead healthier, better lives.

GPS-Enabled Sneakers
Isaac Daniel Group's new GPS-enabled sneakers connect its wearers by the touch of a button to an emergency-response service near them. The shoes provide peace of mind to those caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease or a memory impairment. They'll be available at isaacdaniel.com and meridianhealth.com for men and women in June 2008 and for children in fall 2008. They cost $379 per pair, plus $19 a month for the GPS tracking system. Special thanks to Meridian Health for providing our audience with GPS-enabled sneakers designed by Isaac Daniel.

Life Alert
Life Alert is another device that's great for people who have memory impairment. It's not a new device, though; it has been around for nearly 20 years. In an emergency, simply press the Life Alert pendant, which can be worn on a wristband or necklace, and it immediately signals the Life Alert Monitoring Center via a master unit. The Life Alert dispatcher talks to you through the master unit and sends help if you are injured. Help is also sent automatically if you cannot speak or are unconscious.

Glow Caps
Vitality's Glow Caps illuminate, play a melody, and even ring a home phone to remind you to take your medications. The caps track when medication is taken using built-in sensors, and the system provides reports to caregivers and physicians, enabling them to monitor medication use. You can buy three for $100. Special thanks to Meridian Health for giving our audience a set of Glow Caps.

Ultreo Toothbrush
The Ultreo Toothbrush is the first power toothbrush to combine patented ultrasound wave-guide technology with precisely tuned sonic bristle action. Ultreo's bristles create microbubbles that are activated by nearly 4 million cycles of ultrasound energy per brushing, channeled by a proprietary ultrasound wave guide. The result is an incredible, long-lasting feeling of clean. You can purchase an Ultreo Toothbrush for $170. Special thanks to Ultreo for giving our audience an ultrasound toothbrush
