Martha Stewart Kids, Volume 20 November/December 2005
You'll want to fashion lots of these pretty hair clips (enough for friends -- and a few to keep). Using heavy thread, sew a button or two to the top of a colored bobby pin (for a flower, first sew button to a felt leaf). Stamp name on card stock, cut slit, and insert hairpin.

What a wonderful idea the the Grandchildren.. will be a great stocking stuffer idea.. They all have long hair..
I found a pack of colored bobby pins at Sally's Beauty Supply. It wasn't on the shelf where the other bobby pins were but in front of the store in the barette section. It was a brand called Style Solutions.
Oooppssss ,make that " great " .....spelling error...
Thanks Livinoutloud ~ Actually, came back on here, and clicked again for comments and there was a different pic and the directions, all right there...grat...think I'll use hot glue to fasten the button or small silk flower. Thanks again for your reply, have a smooth day.

I LOVED I MADED FOR MY 6 YEAR OLD GIRL, WITH A SMALL PIn n n n ATAS (IM FROM MEXICO, JEJE) AND EVERY ONE WHANTS THEM!
Agree with all the lovely ladies about "where you can find the colored pins" cute ideas but very little info.
to the question re: colored bobby pins...wonder if you could "paint" them with nail polish??? or even spray paint??
Great idea for my girl and her lovely friends.
I don't think I have seen colored bobby pins... does anyone know which companies make them? I love this idea.
Very cute idea! I have a friend with twin girls who will just love this! I have a little boy and would love to see more "boy" crafts!
This also works with paper clips, makes cute bookmarks.
great idea for party favors or sleepover project.
I plan to try it with my granddauhter.
great idea
I have made hair clips or barettes with plain clips that you can buy from walmart or target and hot glue felt shapes or little crochet flowers that you can buy in craft stores. I have every coloe for my girls-- they are unique and fun
Bobby pins are in plentiful supply at places like Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. You can buy a big box of them for a couple of dollars. One other possibility is to wire the buttons onto the bobby pin, provided you take care to tuck in the ends so they don't poke. Super cute, too bad little boys don't wear bobby pins!
try it with regular colorful berets. works great too and they stay in place better.
HolJen, there are no additional instructions to access. Everything is stated in the text to the right of the picture! These are really cute. I could also see making more 'grown up' clips using vintage buttons or earrings.

Coolmom600, I bought mine at the supermarket of all places. Not too much choice, but they did have the uber-large ones.
I have read on one website that you can paint bobby pins with any color of nail polish. The instructions read to use two coats. I have not tried this yet, but I will this weekend to see if it works out and also I just wanted to share this tip. :)

I think the directions are next to the picture....
This idea also works well with large, sparkley gems.

Can anybody tell me where to find these bobbie pins to make the clips? I found some at Claires but not enough colors or not small enough. Where did Martha Stewert get them?
