Sweet Songbirds Cake Decor

Martha Stewart Weddings, Fall 2004

Diminutive gum-paste birds, their markings painted with petal dust, search for treats: flecks of vanilla bean used to flavor fondant "snow." Birch twigs circle the cake; their tips are wrapped in floral tape (remove birds and twigs before serving). A cake board concealed by fondant sits between the bottom tier and tree-trunk base.

I think this is beautiful. The twigs aren't dead but actually have buds the way they do in the spring which is a sign of life! Love it, thanks for the idea.

Wierd? How is it wierd? It is a WOODLAND cake...thus the twigs. Not every cake has to be run of the mill.

I agree with pam7317 - the twigs have got to go! That cake doesn't convey a good feeling - the twigs are dead.
