Project

Glitter Bird Centerpiece

Materials

  • Small craft brush
  • Feathered birds
  • White glue
  • Glitter in various textures and hues
  • Thin lametta tinsel
  • Branch

Steps

  1. Step 1

Using brush, coat a bird's tail with glue; sprinkle spoonfuls of glitter on top. Let glue dry; shake off excess glitter. Repeat with wings, then body and head.

  2. Step 2

Secure tinsel to one end of the branch with glue, then wrap branch, tucking in a new piece of tinsel when necessary. Tuck end of last piece under to secure. Fasten birds to branch with the wires on their feet.

I've checked both AC Moore and Michaels and can't find any birds. Maybe I'm just too late this year. Does anyone know where Martha lists her sources?

We used feathered birds from Hobby Lobby and glittered the areas (on most birds, their backs and wings) that weren't feathered. Also used Dollar Tree tinsel (125 ft per pack). Made 12 of these to give to American Heritage Girls Leaders for Christmas. Much easier than newspaper Christmas trees we made last year! http://www.marthastewart.com/article/shimmering-stacked-trees

I did this project for a friend that loves birds. I bought all the materials at Michaels. I then just set the branches in a lovely vase. It came out very nice. The lametta is actually a wired tinsel so it is very easy to twist around the branches.

This looks BEAUTIFUL. I'll have to try it. As to what to secure the branches in ... how about a container of your choice filled with oasis foam. Then you could put some green moss over top of the oasis to cover it.

the branch looks like it was just glittered. Did they actually wrap it with icecicle tinsel?
