Peonies Arrangement

The Martha Stewart Show, April 2008

Peonies are beautiful alone, but they can also be mixed with a variety of other spring flowers to create a magnificent arrangement. Emily Weaver, floral designer and owner of Chestnuts in the Tuileries in New York City, shares arrangement tips.

Featured Flowers
Garden roses, peonies, sweet peas, viburnums, ranunculuses, and tulips in shades of pink.

Peony Arranging Tips
Many flowers fit well with peonies. It's best to start with the largest flower, which would include peonies, and then add in the smaller, more delicate flowers.

Peony Arrangement Care Tips
Like all flowers, you should change the peonies' water daily with flower food. To get them to develop faster, you can submerge the heads in warm water to help loosen the sticky sap the flower emits (usually ants will eat it and help the flower open), but we suggest using warm water and then peeling back the tight petals.

Fantastic! Very pleased to have the conditioning tidbits - being able to keep in frig up to 6 weeks, dipping in warm water, massaging to open, etc. Am hoping to contribute significant amount of home grown flowers/arrangements to our daughters outdoor wedding in June next year. Very much looking forward to other helpful/informative tidbits.
