Felt Fortune Cookies from "The Martha Stewart Show"

Felt Fortune Cookie How-To
1. Using fabric shears, cut a 4 1/2-inch-diameter circle from a piece of felt. Cut a piece of matching ribbon slightly shorter than 4 1/2 inches. Using wire cutters, cut a piece of floral wire slightly shorter than the length of ribbon.

2. Using craft glue, affix the wire to the middle of the felt circle. Glue ribbon on top, covering the wire. Let dry 30 minutes.

3. Fold the felt circle in half, using the wire as a guide, so ribbon is inside cookie. Next, angle the sides toward each other, bending the wire at its halfway point and forming a fortune-cookie shape, as shown.

4. Assemble the fortune cookies. Carefully peel back one flap of the felt cookie, and insert a paper fortune and a few candies. Fold the flap back over to close cookie around contents.

So cute! I am making them for bridal shower favors. VERY important to let the "Tacky Glue" dry before bending the cookies. I am putting some candies in the bottom of a Chinese takeout container (small) and putting two pixie sticks in for "chopsticks."

I loved this project - quick and easy with great results. IYou need a good craft glue like SOBO to get the wire to adhere to the felt and ribbon. Elmer's won't work.

I loved this project!! Unfortunately i didnt realise this project required wire so i had to be a little more crafty... but i think they turned out great. if you use this project as inspiration i think you will be surprised at ther results. I also put mine in a pink chinese container and wrapped with a ribbon!

Hot glue would probably work better. I'll try this today and post my results!

These did not work at all. The glue was not strong enough to hold the wire. Floral wire was not strong enough to secure the shape. I used a 20 gauge wire and that still was not strong enough. I ended up having to use super glue to secure the shape in the end. This was an unrealistic project, DO NOT ATTEMPT!

when folding, how do you avoid the "flattening" effect? I can't get the fortune cookies to plump up in the middle... maybe it's the felt i'm using or glue? what have other people been using?

These were very, very fun to make. I did them for our office's Valentine party. Everyone was astonished!

ssotelo - i have not made them yet, but i would assume that they are held closed (or at least somewhat closed) just because they are folded.
