Steaming 101

A hot iron has the potential to compromise your fabrics, adding unwanted shine to heavier materials such as corduroy and even singeing more delicate fabrics. But hot steam is perfectly safe for any fabric, and it's more effective for removing wrinkles and keeping clothes looking fresh than ironing. In the past, steamers were often bulky, but several companies have developed smaller, more practical, and even portable models that occupy only a little more space than conventional irons. If you purchase a steamer, be sure to follow the directions for the temperature setting most appropriate to your fabric, and test the steamer on the inside of the material first before steaming the entire fabric or garment.
