Leaf Layering How-To

  1. Step 1

Cut a healthy leaf from the plant with a bit of stem attached to act as an anchor.

  2. Step 2

Prepare a growing medium by mixing equal parts peat and perlite.

  3. Step 3

Moisten, but don't soak, the medium.

  4. Step 4

Place the leaf on the growing mix, weighting it with pebbles to maintain contact.

  5. Step 5

Using a sharp knife, slit through the major leaf veins; dust with rooting hormone.

  6. Step 6

Place tray in a warm, humid place, out of direct sun. Mist regularly. Plantlets will form at slits; cut apart, and pot up.
