Tea Party Birthday

Martha Stewart Kids, Spring 2006

Something is brewing at this birthday party. Once little girls leave their shoes at the door, they step into a room steeped in charm.

Cherry blossoms decorate every surface, a low coffee table serves as a spot to enjoy fragrant tea and delicate finger foods, and cute paper puppets (made using simple origami techniques) dance on children's fingertips.

Invitations
The invitations bear blossoms made with apple stamps. Cut an apple in half horizontally, remove seeds, and cut wedges from the sides to create shape. Brush with acrylic paint, and stamp onto kraft paper.

Favors
Basic lunch sacks sprout into fancy favor bags when you add paper flowers and cuff the top edges. Each contains tiny trinkets such as lanterns, origami paper, candies, chopsticks, and fans.

Activities and Recipes
The real beauty of this tea party is that all the details are easy to re-create: The same stamps decorate invitations and table runners, and favors are an inexpensive find at an Asian market. At the end of the day, guests' hearts will be warmed by both the tea and the loveliness of the afternoon.

Hey, the apple stamp invitation idea is great. I never thought we could actually have a tea for girls.

What fun ideas for a cute little girls tea party perfect for special flower tea sets. I loved your apple stamps ideas. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Maitresse...I find you very rude. What is the need for the all capital letters? People are talking about a child's party NOT how well and how often you maintain your carpets.

We don't do carpet that way we always have floors that are clean or easy to clean. All wood.

This is an Asian themed party--in those countries shoes are never worn indoors.
