Father's Day Idea: Bow Tie Wrap

Martha Stewart Living, June 2005

Instead of gift-boxing a tie for Dad this year, why not tie a gift box? Bow ties fit around many small gifts, and both the traditional and pretied kinds will work. If Dad wears bow ties, a new "bow" can be an added present. If he prefers neckties, an inexpensive vintage bow tie can be used just for fun. Tie the bow around a gift box or two. For a fancier look, dress a wrapped box with ribbon before adding the tie. For a bottle of wine, wrap the length of a pretied bow around the middle a couple of times. This will tighten any slack, letting the tie's smallest setting catch.

This bow tie wrapping is actually clever and original and not a recycled idea. did anyone watch Martha on Food Network last night - Foodnetwrok Star? She was very good and direct, what you would expect.

This is such a wonderful idea for gift wrapping my fathers presents. He has so many ties and only wears about a third of them, it's a good idea for all the male members in my family.

Thanks for the info on the bow tie craft. I had fun learning to the bows on myself. And to Pkildow, thanks for pointing out the Also try area. I wanted to know the instructions on how to tie the bows. That's what happens when we pay attentions to our surrounding lol lol

Thank you so much for sharing this brilliant idea. It makes the gifts so masculine and not ordinary. Again thank you.

To saralexi, there are bow tie instructions in the Also Try . . . section in the upper right corner of the screen. You know the area with the three little pictures of other projects and arrows on both sides. I think this is a great idea, very unique and easy whether you buy a tie or tie your own.

Would have liked to have instructions on how to make a "bow tie" out of regular ribbon and not have to buy a "bow tie" at the store.

I love this idea! Bow ties can be found at Daiso, the Japanese "dollar" shop that is now in Canada ( vancouver, b.c) actually everthing is $2. This store is great for convenient, Japanese style merchandise.
