Handmade Thank-You Cards: Messenger Birds

Introduction

Dainty Victorian-era engravings of birds culled from a clip-art book and then color-photocopied become elegant winged messengers bearing tiny three-dimensional missives of thanks.

To make the cards, fold an 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of paper into quarters. Unfold. Color-photocopy clip-art birds, shrinking or enlarging as needed, cut out, and affix with a glue stick to two bottom rectangles of folded sheet. Color-photocopy onto card stock; cut in half vertically so a bird is at the bottom of each piece. With a utility knife, cut around each bird's beak, forming a V-flap. Insert pre-inscribed note card or folded envelope (we sealed ours with wax) that is 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches; dab on glue to secure. Fold card so crease is at top.

Yeah, why wasn't the clip art and directions shown? Anyone could write this kind of "idea" -- we look to MarthaStewart.com for actual "how to's" and directions.
