Kathy Tolleson: ROAR Motorcycles

Kathy Tolleson fell in love with motorcycles when she started riding a Honda 50 on the dirt roads of Minnesota more than 40 years ago.

In high school, she taught her girlfriends to drive cars and ride bikes, and empowering women has been an important part of her life ever since. This past year, Kathy launched ROAR Motorcycles, Inc., one of the first motorcycle dealerships in the country focusing exclusively on the needs of women riders.

At ROAR, the mission is to make women happy by designing and customizing motorcycles that fit female riders properly, making the bike not only beautiful and unique, but more comfortable and safer to ride.

Kathy's also in the process of developing a prototype bike, and will start manufacturing her own line of bikes next year. Truly devoted to filling every need in the industry, she has even started a cosmetic line called Windblown, designed to meet the special needs of female riders.

As an extension of the years she spent counseling and ministering to abused and oppressed women from many different nations, Kathy also started the ROAR Foundation to reach oppressed women of the world with educational and entrepreneurial projects.

When it comes to bikes, sharing her passion is key. To Kathy, nothing is more exciting than when a woman gets on a ROAR customized motorcycle, grins, and says, "I can do this!"

Hello All! I just went by the ROAR shop and can't say enough about the customer service and family welcome I get each time I step through the door. I bought the ONLY pair of jeans that had the ROAR logo on them and am so proud when I wear them! Kathy, you are such an inspiration to EVERYONE. Bravo for you, and you won before you ever entered the contest my dear. Love to you, Rodney and the whole team!

I agree with the issue of trying to vote for Kathy Tolleson and the website would not allow me. It was well beyond the 24 hours as well! This was not just once over the course of this contest but numerous times.

  • 18 Nov, 2008

I also tried many days to vote for Kathy, but it would not allow the vote to be calculated. It said for me to try back later, but when I returned it would not calculate the vote.

  • 18 Nov, 2008

I tried to vote for Kathy several different days and the site would not accept the vote!

    Keep on ROARing Kathy!

  • 18 Nov, 2008

This website is a joke! I have not been able to vote for 3 days!!

  • 17 Nov, 2008

  • 17 Nov, 2008

Kathy is a woman of determination! She sets a goal with a vision following through, no matter what it takes. I have found her to be a "Winner"! Many people have visions and goals; but too few ever accomplish their dreams. Kathy has accomplished her dream, vision and goal. And, she is not finished! Much more will be accomplished by and through her! She deserves respect and recognition!

    Love

  • 15 Nov, 2008

To COOOOOOOL! I was impressed with the Sebring, Florida display and professionalism . The bikes have a special thing about them tailored to ladies. I watched ladies sit on them and picture themselves with the wind in their face. Wish you all the luck.

What an inspiration and empowerment for women. Kathy, I can't tell you how HUGE this dream of yours is and how much it will affect women all over the world. I am in the process of womanizing my motorcycle and I can't wait to send pictures of the final product. I would love to be a part of your ROAR family. only an empowerment for women riders, but for women in general. I could not be more excited to vote for you and be a part of your dream and the history that you are making. ROAR!!!!

  • 14 Nov, 2008

Congratulations Kathy! I think it was great that you were one of the finalists in this contest. For anyone who doesn't realize the impact of motorcycles, just ask some of your local charities who depend on the motorcycle community to hold poker runs and other fundraisers. Every week across America there are thousands of events put on by the motorcycle groups to help out MDA, March of Dimes, Susan Komen, Southeastern Guide Dogs, and much more.

  • 13 Nov, 2008

Kathy is a winner! Her dream of building a bike for women to ride and join will not only bless those who ride, but the dream to take the proceeds and use for women around the world to live a better quality of life, is the heart of the woman who gives so sacrificially day after day. Not only a pastor, but a counselor, and a woman who goes to the nations to share the love of the God she loves and serves. What an example she is and what a dream she has achieved! We love you Kathy!

  • 13 Nov, 2008

Thank you, "courtr", and as much as I feel winning this contest could do a ton for Normal Moments, I would never want to minimize Kathy's strength and the good she does for so many women!

  • 12 Nov, 2008

Kathy, you are a true inspirational leader empowering women of all ages and background to achieve their greatest potential. You make us all proud to be your friend. Thanks for all the good things you are doing. Love, Adel.

  • 11 Nov, 2008

Kathy, it was an honor and privilege to meet you in NYC. I can't wait to see a quote on a bike and to come down to FL to get it as soon as I can save up the funds! Right now, my convertible is my "therapy" transportation, but it just doesn't compare to the freedom of a motorcycle!! :-)

  • 11 Nov, 2008

Not only is she enjoying a sport that has always been male dominated she is leading the business in custom bike building. At the same time she is keeping the feminine edge on the business by displaying everything in a boutique settings. Proof that women can succeed in a man's world and still keep their femininity.

    Kathy,
You're such an amazing visionary! We are proud to be your friends and look forward to hearing the ROAR cover the nations!
    Be Blessed,
    Dr. Joshua

  • 5 Nov, 2008

Kathy has been huge visionary. Her ability to see that which is not seen and then create itit. Kathy keeps it fresh and real in all that she puts her heart into. Kathy's passion for the women of the motor cycle world makes her and the ROAR a complete total package. Watch out HOG the run for the dominant motor cycle manufacture for next 50 years as this legacy of a family business tradition continues with her daughters and grand daughters. God bless the Roar!!!!!.

  • 5 Nov, 2008

I met Kathy in Sept when my husband and I rode to her shop to visit. I have yet to get my own bike but Kathy was so nice and encouraging and took alot of time with me to explain the things I would look for in a bike being a first time rider and short. You can tell by talking with her how much she cares for people and gets so much enjoyment helping others fulfill thier dreams. GO KATHY !!!! Good luck !!!

  • 4 Nov, 2008

I completely agree about this website, votes don't show up and it doesn't always let you vote.

  • 2 Nov, 2008

Kathy is truly an innovator; innovation driven by creativity. One of the most amazing feats that Kathy has been able to accomplish through ROAR Motorcycles is that she has penetrated what has traditionally been considered a male-dominated market. Some motorcycle companies take bikes designed for men and try to retrofit for women but ROAR is the only motorcycle design and development company that makes bikes cusom fitted for women. Truly innovative and market changing!

  • 2 Nov, 2008

I've known Kathy for over 7 yrs. and she is an amazing person who has been a positive influence not only in my life but my daughter's life also. She inspires me to be a better person and business owner. She has such a heart for women and that's why I feel she deserves to win!

I began to ride 5 years ago. The empowerment I found helped me get out of a 26 Year abusive relationship. The more I ride the stronger I am. Thanks to Kathy and women like her!! They lead the way for women like me. I'm happy now with a new husband who rides beside me, we enjoy our freedom together.
    Thanks

Same problem at my home computer where a few of us use the same one. Try refreshing your computer and under "tools" go into Internet Options and under browing history hit delete under all categories. This should solve your problem and you and your co-workers can all vote for Kathy.

I was so impressed with your motorcycles and bike shop! Your taste is impeccable, and just what I would choose in a motorcycle! As a female biker, I can appreciate what you're doing in designing motorcycles for a woman's build and tastes. I love the make-up line and your line of clothing too.

Kathy, You are an inspiration! You have added years to my life with the wonderfully generous gift of a custom makeover you gave to me through your "Ugly Betty Bike Contest". You removed the pain and put the FUN back into riding for me while giving me love, confidence and friendship in the process. Maybe the blessings return to you tenfold for the work you do worldwide improving lives. Lifelong Gratitude, Ragan Jenkins, International Vice-President of Women in the Wind

Kathy, I can not possibly find the words to describe the joy in Ragan's eyes, because of the freedom you and your staff have given her. In a person's lifetime, you must rejoice, when you come across people with hearts as big as yours and your team. I am a better person havng met you all! I am proud to be a member of the Roar family. Even though we are 150 miles away, expect to see me occasionaly in "The Man Chair"!

  • 21 Oct, 2008

Would you like to meet someone who brightens your life simply by walking into a room? That Kathy! She's intense -- but in a quiet way. She's the kind of person you follow because you want to, not because you have to. Roar is a first-class organization. Each time a newly customized motorcycle is rolled out onto the showroom floor, it's as though morning had dawned and a fresh new flower had opened its petals to give pleasure to passers-by.

  • 21 Oct, 2008

After Kathy (my mother in law) wins, she may get disqualified for slightly fibbing in her print materials - as we all know Kathy you are 4 foot 11 and seven-eighths inches tall..NOT 5 FOOT! SHOES and SOCKS DO NOT count! BUT nevertheless, wrapped up inside of that 4 foot 11 and seven-eighths inches tall woman is a lady with extreme passion, tremendous determination, an amazing work ethic, world class leadership skills and excellence in all she puts her hands to! . Love you!

  • 21 Oct, 2008

Kathyn n n s creativity and passion are two essential ingredients for success! Her store is first class jam packed with women's motorcycles and clothing. The atmosphere is inviting. It is a wonderful to see her dream become reality. Kathy shares her talents with all women who share the same hobby of motorcycle riding. If you have a passion for motorcylces you have to see her designs, colors and style of her motorcycles. If you do not ride a bike, you may change your mind once you see her bikes!

  • 21 Oct, 2008

I had a great time at 2008 Biketoberfest. It is amazing to see so many women and mens excitement when they see Kathy's bikes. I am a 5'6" man and i ride a Roar motorcycle that is customized for me as a man. I call my bike "Old School" and she fits perfect for my height. Thank you Kathy for all you do for the women and also for the men who can truly appreciate and experience a ROAR Motorcycle.

  • 20 Oct, 2008

Kathy's primary concern is not just about selling bikes. It goes WAY beyond that! She is one who invests in women that they might be all they can possiblity be. Kathy sees beyond the exterior to the heart and will go to great lengths even at her own expense to see that potential released! BTW: I never dreamed I would ever desire a bike until I saw her website and later visited the showroom and actually sat on a bike that fit (AND was pretty).

  • 20 Oct, 2008

There is nothing more empowering than to have women get together

  • 20 Oct, 2008

if you could only see the excitement in her grandchildrens lives as they run inside to give grandma a hug at the ROAR store! It is priceless....and what Kathy is leading by example to her daughters and grandchildren that you can do through God anything you put your heart to and the sky is the limit! There is nothing wrong with teaching good ole fashion American hard work pays off...if you just keep moving forward. What an example for her grandchildren even through the touch and busy times.

  • 20 Oct, 2008

Kathy stated last Bike Week to the News Jorunal that she wanted to be the Marthat Stewart of Motorcycling! What a story book ending to walk away in November as the one that Martha choose and reaized here is a woman that has a Mission much like her own but to affect the World of Motorcycling! That is not a business it is a Market Trend that will affect millions in the years to come.

  • 20 Oct, 2008

I look at all the finalists and realize that they represent different woman that have worked through some type of difficulty and have created an opportunity for themselves in a market that some are trying to make a difference in peoples lives or simply trying to bring a home grown product. However, if you look at Kathy Tolleson and really read through her story and research her website you realize much more.....Here is a woman devoted to changing an entire INDSUTRY!

One size does NOT FIT ALL!!!! As a large woman of 5'10" it is difficult for me to find clothing that fits, I am NOT the average size of a woman and that is VERY frustrating. Because of my height motorcycles fit me, so I already had my own bike, and ROAR took my bike and made her into something spectacular. When i ride down the road all eyes look at her, even men who've been riding for years must compliment her. Thank You ROAR!!!!!!

  • 18 Oct, 2008

We have just finished up a great Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach and I want to thank everyone who stopped by the dealership and also told me you were going on-line to check out the Dreamers into Doers contest. There's nothing better than women supporting women. Wle did a Sisterhood ride on Friday with 32 women on bikes. It's an awesome sight and great sound! ROAR

  • 18 Oct, 2008

Because Kathy has turned her dream into a doer, It has given me the courage to turn my dreams into doing. I am being challenged daily to do things that I never thought I would be doing. Thank you Kathy for pressing in.................

    I have been a business consultant for more than 30 years. Over the years, Kathy has shared many business ideas with me and I would say, n n n n n n I donn n n n n n t think so.n n n n n n But when she had a Divine Drop about motorcycles for women I said, n n n n n n YES n n n n n n YES n n n n n n YES! Thatn n n n n n s a Billion Dollar Idea!n n n n n n She told me at that time, she wanted to become the Martha Stewart of the motorcycle world. As I was helping her with the business plan, she gave me a copy of Martha Stewartn n n n n n s How To Write A Successful Business Plan and it helped me put ROARn n n n n n s business plan together to find an Angel Investor that will invest 6 million dollars to make ROAR into a national company.

Kathy Tolleson is my grandma, and I love how she had a passion for motorcycles and then chose to step up to make it a reality for her and so many other women. She is so brave, and she also makes a great batch of cookies...go grandma, let's roar!!!!

Just wanted to say that I have seen Kathy's bikes at numerous festivals and rallies. It is fun to watch the surprised look on women's faces turn to excitement after they sit on a Roar Bike. For many of these women it is the first time they are sitting on a bike that is not only beautiful, but designed to fit them. It is remarkable! Thank you Kathy, for bringing women to the forefront of the motorcycle industry. It is about time! jc

  • 17 Oct, 2008

Kathy Tolleson is a forerunner among women. She leads by serving and is often found enjoying a good laugh. Over the years, we have watched her strength and determination accomplish many powerful community projects. She would be a perfect role model for any program geared to women.

I work for Kathy and I have to say that it is hardly like working at all. She is very focused on getting the job done but she remains positive and encourages us all to be a team and support each other. She is always building me up and always lets me know that she appreciates me. She is so humble and a great woman!

I am impressed for Kathy's ability to envision what she wants to achieve and her
ability to accomplish her dream. I have been in the showroom at "Roar" and seen
the response of women who have ridden bikes for years, and finally found a comfort fit in a motorcycle with a paint job and custom seat that is tailored just
    for each individual woman.

Kathy happens to be my mother,so I know her amazingly well...I would say she is the most inspiring woman I know and never ceases to amaze me.She is always taking on huge feats, and usually succeeding, but always learning and helping others along the way.Never taking the road most travelled, truly a "brave pioneer".
I have never seen anyone give of their life,in every way possible,to help others. So I vote for Kathy because she is a true "Doer" who lives her life "doing"!!

Kathy's integrity and fervor for life eminate out of her as she strives for excellence in all she does. Her heart to help people shows in every facet of her life. ROAR is just another example of Kathy's willingness to walk in excellence and integriity, while looking out for others. God gave her a desire and a dream...she believed for it and now it is a reality.

Kathy is does it all- she cares for her family, gives to our community, advises other local businesses (like mine!) and has established a terrific business that is already thriving in less than a year! She's an amazing woman.

  • 13 Oct, 2008

Kathy is the epitome of a "Dreamer into a Doer". She has such incredible vision and passion to accomplish all that God has asked her to accomplish - running a ministry, operating a business, and working with local government to see community transformation - a quintessential DOER. Kathy shares her vision and then goes about DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES to see the dream realized. I've often said, "If you want something accomplished, make sure Kathy Tolleson is involved!"

  • 13 Oct, 2008

The Tolleson's are an amazing family who have blessed the Greater Daytona area with their ministries for many years. I'm so excited to see Kathy have this opportunity of recognition. Regardless of the outcome I know she will give God the Glory for the abitlity to let more people know about her unique bikes and her ministry for women. I have seen these motocycles and I do not have a bike at this time but the day I am able, Kathy will have a lifetime customer! God bless you, Kathy for all you do!

Kathy is an amazing woman of compassion, strength and vision. I have known her for many years and have always found her to be someone who has inspired men and women alike with their God-given abilities to be all they could be. She has empowered countless women through counseling, teaching and through training in practical business principles. She is one of the most passionate people I know and feel she would be the right person for this incredible honor.

  • 13 Oct, 2008

Kathy Tolleson has always been someone whom I have admired. She is such a go getter, so strong and such a wonderful Mother! Thanks for being there for me when I was a teenager and taking me into your home to live. I'll never forget what you've done for me and how you made me feel like part of your family. I can't wait to come see ROAR motors.

  • 12 Oct, 2008

Kathy is truly a pioneer for women who ride. Once the world has caught wind of her vision....LOOK OUT!!!! There's nothing more exciting than the wind in your hair and the feeling of empowerment as you ride on your own custom ROAR cycle.

  • 12 Oct, 2008

Let's keep this short and sweet... like Kathy herself. ;-)
Two words come to mind: Excellence and Integrity. That about sums it up.
    YOU GO GIRL!

Have had a long day, with sore feet, trying to figure out why I was doing two events in one week-end and then I took some time before bed to read these comments. Now I'm so motivated I 'm not sure if I can sleep. I can't even begin to tell all the women and men who have supported ROAR how much you mean to me and our team!!!!!

  • 11 Oct, 2008

Kathy and her team at Roar Motorcycles are so incredible! They were so helpful in helping me get the bike of my dreams. The bikes they make enable women to be so much more comfortable on the road and safely ride awesome bikes!

  • 11 Oct, 2008

After visiting Kathy's showroom, I can certainly appreciate her building "Motorcycles for Women".
Many years ago, in my early 20s, I owned a Honda 350 Four. What fun! But, I was barely able to reach the ground on my tiptoes. Kathy's motorcycle design removes that problem. If only I were in my 20s again.
Congratulations, Kathy, on making your love of motorcycles into a dream business! And, congratulations on the honor of being a finalist in Martha Stewart's Dreamers Into Doers contest.

  • 11 Oct, 2008

Kathy, I think you are an awesome lady, so creative and inspiring! I love riding with you.

  • 11 Oct, 2008

Kathy and the folks at Roar Motorcycles gave me the encouragement to achieve my dream to learn to ride with private tutoring (thanks to Leslie). Their professional knowledge of every aspect of motorcycling was the greatest help for me. She's just the best!

  • 11 Oct, 2008

I visited Kathy earlier this year when my wife was looking to buy a motorcycle. Kathy is one of the friendliest and most honest business persons I have ever dealt with. My wife and I constantly recommed Kathy and Roar Motorcycles to our friends. The other side of Kathy is her commitment to helping others. The central Florida community has benefited greatly from Kathy's involvment. Kathy is truly an inspiration to everyone who comes into contact with her.

  • 11 Oct, 2008

I am so happy to see Kathy among the finalist. she totally deserves this, I cant believe its been almost a year now since Kathy introduced me to my first bike. I would recommend that anyone that has ever even thought about ridiing, to talk to kathy and visit the ROAR shop or their website www.roarmotorcycles.com

  • 11 Oct, 2008

Kathy I think you are awesome! When I came into your shop and got the personalized service and learned of your mission I must say I was impressed! You and your Team is totally on board to make the mission come true! A motorcycle shop exclusively for women, clothes

  • 11 Oct, 2008

    Kathy:

Your dream helped my friend Joanie achieve HER dream. Bravo! Well done!

  • 11 Oct, 2008

She is so down to earth. She makes you feel that there is sincerity and love in the earth still today. There is a woman that she has helped that in turn helped me. Its the kind of help that continues on, one woman at a time. She is, who she is, and she inspires me to be me. Thank you!

  • 11 Oct, 2008

Kathy Tolleson is a very special lady. I have traveled all over the world with her over the last 10 years and she has been an amazing mentor but one of the things that she has taught me is to just be who I am. She is a very real and gifted women and wants the best for everyone. She reaches high in her goals but never goes alone, she alwys is looking to see who she can bring with her. I am so extemely proud of her and cant wait to see what all 2009 has in store.
    Let's ROAR!

  • 10 Oct, 2008

Every once in a while you come across those rare people who touch your life and everyone else around them...Well, I want to welcome you to Kathy's world. It's a place to dream, a place to be real, and a place to reach your potential! Kathy was nominated Woman of the Year in two counties, authored several books, spoken at conferences across the U.S. and other nations, and now has business to design motorcycles that fit the needs, the life and the style of women around the globe.

  • 10 Oct, 2008

Kathy is one of those rare people who touch your life and leave it forever changed. My daughter is saving to get her first bike and though we live in NYC, she's buying her bike from Kathy. Who better to understand the needs of today's female biker than Kathy?

  • 10 Oct, 2008

I am so glad to see Kathy nominated, I purchased a bike from her in April in Leesburg and feel she is such a visionary in this field. She just spent the weekend here in my hometown of Sebring Florida showing her bikes at our local Run to the Heartland and every time I was near her display all I heard was how impressed the crowd was with her bikes and her as a person, just a really warm person to be around. Way to go Kathy!

  • 10 Oct, 2008

I have only been riding for a few years but motorcycles has been such a male dominated field that I was so excited to find out about Kathy and ROAR Motorcycles. She is totally committed to empowering women by helping them get into motorcycles and also with her ROAR Foundation to help less fortunate women. She walks the walk. Ladies, even if you don't ride a motorcycle, don't miss her shop in Daytona! It's filled with some of the coolest clothing, cosmetics, and accessories.

I think it is awesome to see a women to enter into what was considered a man's world/domain and to be successful. She is a total inspiration to me and my wife. We have knowledge of some of the challenges she had to overcome to make this business work and with the grace of God she stayed in the battle and the victory is hers. Those who will purchase their motorcycles from her will reap the benefit of Kathy's attitude of excellence and attention to details and her "can do" tenacity..

  • 10 Oct, 2008

    Kathy is divinely inspired!

  • 10 Oct, 2008

Kathy truly cares about the women she works with and customizes bikes for. She personally spent a good bit of time with me and helping me overcome my own fears; helping me see that I really CAN do this! I bought a bike from her that fits me perfectly, and the makeup line is awesome, too. Her generosity and passion is inspiring. This woman is going to give Harleys a lot of competition as word spreads and ladies find out they don't have to settle for a bike made for guys.

The gift she gave me will allow me to overcome physical challenges and continue to ride my motorcycles, and in turn continue my own charity work, for many more years. She serves so many in so VERY many ways. This inspiring woman radiates peace, love and hope wherever she goes. Congratulations Kathy, We love you!

Kathy is an amazing woman. She epitomizes that "big things come in <petite> packages." Her compassion for humanity is evident in her writing and her speaking. To hear her speak is to realize that she is truly a conduit for the Divine. She has been with me through her books, audio, and the legacy she creates through her ministry during my healing journey. ROAR is just one more way that she is serving people. Kathy is an inspiration and blessing to me (and many) in many more ways than just one.

Kathy has found a very unique way to help women empower themselves!
Her business has impressed me more than any other female owned/run business I have ever been in contact with. After spending 20 years in the hospitality industry, where a female owned business is very normal, it is extremely difficult to impress this lady!
