Irish eyes -- and everyone else's -- will be smiling at the sight of these fuzzy holiday favors. The pin-on clovers consist of chenille pipe cleaners twisted into the shape of shamrocks and adorned with paper medallions. Fasten pins to decorative cards for presentation, then to the lapels of their lucky recipients.
You'll need bump pipe cleaners, card stock, a utility knife, safety pins, and white glue.
Place pipe cleaner on a clean work surface. Bend the top bump into the shape of a leaf, twisting to secure. Fashion leaves out of the second and third bumps. Twist final bump around the center of the leaves once or twice to stabilize, then bend it into a stem. Trim off sharp, pointy end of pipe cleaner. Color-photocopy, or download and print, cards and medallions onto card stock. Cut out with a utility knife. Attach safety pin to back of shamrock, then pin shamrock to card. Glue medallion to shamrock.
This is one of my all-time favorite "Martha" holiday crafts. People are always so glad to receive one of these pins!

I made up a about 30 of these for my friends and colleages. I actually glued them to brooch pins. They were really easy to make and so cute. Everyone loved them and today everyone in my office is wearing one!
to carolinfdefran: the card is part of the packaging. The recipient of the gift would take it off the card before they pin it on.

maybe i'm missing something but if you put the safety pin through the back how do you then pin it on yourself?

Cute! I think it would be cute with a round green faceted button in the center or a green faceted stone.

Safety pins are good, but I prefer the little pins with the wheel on one side that the pin secures into. I can't remember their exact name, but I think that those pins would give it a more professional look hot glued to the back of the pin.

If you're having difficulty getting the pins through the card, make a slit with an Exacto knife and push it through. Or, use a 1/8 [filtered word] punch
I chose not to use pins. Instead I used double sided tape so that the shamrocks were safe for small children to wear. I also used a clear stick on dot over the center decoration. I think they are called "rain dots." The dots gave the completed project a more finished and professional look.
If you can find a way to get the pin through the pin and card stock, tell me your secret! I can't figure it out, nothing I do seems to work.
Using what I had to work with at home, plain green pipe cleaners, I twisted two of them together to create one thicker one then twisted them into a shamrock. I had difficulty printing the templates, so I downloaded some shamrock clipart from the web and glued it on the front and now just need to affix the pins. The craft was very easy to do and they look adorable. I plan to send them to family and possibly my daughter's classmates to wear on St. Patrick's Day.
