Joshua Wesson is the co-owner of an unusual wine shop called Best Cellars, which has locations in New York City, Boston, and Arlington, VA. Best Cellars is organized to demystify the experience of choosing a wine by making it easy for customers to select a wine based on their meal or their mood. Josh classifies wines by taste and style, organizing them by headings such as, Fizzy, Fresh, Soft, Smooth, Big, and Sweet, rather than by region of origin or type of grape. "Soft," for example, indicates a mellow, medium-bodied white wine, while "Big" means a powerful, full-bodied red.
Best Cellars' interior was created by David Rockwell, designer of many top restaurants in New York City, including Nobu. Simple, airy, and inviting, the decor further diminishes the intimidating effect that wine stores often have on customers. The store's slogan is "Great Wines for Every Day," and it's obvious that Josh is serious about keeping wine affordable for everyone: Many of the more than one hundred wines at Best Cellars are priced at $15 or less a bottle.
