Modernizing a Traditional Chair

Modernizing a Traditional Chair

Where some might see a traditional dining chair, we see a canvas for creativity. Applying the same "shiny paint, modern look" principle used in the bed-painting project  -- and fashioning a cushion in a complementary fabric -- you can put a fresh spin on a formal design. Here's an opportunity to use a pricier pattern you love: One yard can cover four seats easily.

True Blue (far left)
Benjamin Moore Gentleman's Gray (#2062) in high gloss; Calico Corners Punch Love cotton-rayon-linen fabric in blue.

Orange Crush (second from left)
Benjamin Moore Claret Rose (#2008-20) in high gloss; Calico Corners Dasan polyester fabric in Chocolate and Gold.

Seeing Green (second from right)
Benjamin Moore Sherwood Green (HC-118) in high gloss; Country Swedish Stensota linen-cotton fabric in Lilac (#3713).

In the Black (far right)
Benjamin Moore Black (#2132-10) in high gloss; Calico Corners Goodwin Plaid cotton fabric in Admiral.

Tip: Before painting, sand the wood lightly and apply primer.
