Making Grapefruit Tea with Martha

The Martha Stewart Show, September 2007

Each month, Body+Soul chooses a highly nutritious fruit or vegetable that is in season -- and the fact that they are in season is important, because that's when they are most nutritious and taste the best.

January's Power Food: Grapefruit
-One grapefruit has about 25 percent of your daily fiber needs. By eating the segments whole, you'll get 50 percent more fiber, contributing to healthy digestion.

-Grapefruit is full of vitamin C, a major antioxidant that helps fight infection and may shorten the duration of colds.

-Red and pink grapefruit contain lycopene, which is associated with reduced risk of cancer and heart disease.

-Grapefruits also offer potassium and folate. Folate is an important nutrient for pregnant women and may help ward off depression and memory loss.

Special Thanks
Special thanks to Alanna Fincke, Body+Soul's editor in chief, for sharing these grapefruit facts, and to the Florida grapefruit growers for giving our studio audience a ruby red grapefruit to make Warm Grapefruit Tea.
