Glittered Pumpkin Table Decorations

Introduction

These decorations bring sparkle to tables and serving areas -- and they last far longer than jack-o'-lanterns.

Materials

  • Small pumpkins
  • Medium-sized paintbrush
  • Glitter
  • White Glue
  • Paper plate or newspaper
  • Brown acrylic paint

Steps

  1. Step 1

With paintbrush, spread layer of white glue over the surface of a small pumpkin. Place pumpkin on a paper plate or newspaper to catch excess glitter.

  2. Step 2

Sprinkle powder glitter over glue, covering completely. Let dry for an hour, then shake off excess powder.

  3. Step 3

Coat stem with brown acrylic paint, let dry. Once dry, the stem can also be covered in brown glitter if desired. The pumpkins will keep for months.

I bought some small pumpkins at a great price from a local farm, and thought I'd try this project out with them. I made these to place on my mantel and it turned out awesome, but after a few changes. Rather than the white glue, I used spray adhesive to get a more even coat. I placed the pumpkins on a "silver" platter I found at my local dollar store with some tealights, and they look gorgeous!

I did this craft with my 2 daughters (ages 5/8). I had to take over as it was difficult for them to get the glue even. They turned out beautiful, however given the cost and effort I would suggest using imitation pumpkins that can be used again next year. Also of note, the glitter continues to fall off and transfer after drying. We now live in a "magical" home covered in green and bronze glitter!!

If using foam pumpkins, you can spray a coat of polyurethane over to protect it. I have seen this same process done with candleholders. Beautiful!

We made these with foam pumpkins instead of real pumpkins, and they came out great! Plus you can save them for the next year.
