Dog Collar Couture

Add a silk flower or other flourish to your dog's collar that you can change in a snap for any occasion.

Resources: Canvas dog collar, $12, by Martha Stewart Pets, petsmart.com. Silk flowers, panysilk.com

Materials

  • Upholstery needle and thread
  • Button snap set
  • Silk flower

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Use an upholstery needle and thimble to stitch half of a snap to the collar.

  2. Step 2

    Stitch the other half of the snap to the base of a fabric flower. Those with a flat fabric bottom are easiest to work with. If your flower has a plastic base, just sew through a petal or two as close as possible to the base.

    this project is not as easy as it seems. The collar is very thick, a thimble is very helpful for sewing on the snap. I picked a flower with more layers and that made it hard to sew on the snap. I recommened picking one with only 1 or 2 layers, and that the center is smaller than the snap. But after all the hiccups, my dog does look adorable. Well see how long it lasts....
