Pet-Food Tins

Keep food fresh and out of sight in an attractive tin.
Martha Stewart Living, November 1995

Pets can go through food so fast you sometimes wonder if they're piglets in disguise. Keeping gigantic kibble bags in stock is economical but awkward. Instead, buy a ten-gallon garbage pail from the hardware store; it will hold and keep fresh a 20-pound bag of dry food.

very very bad idea. dogs and cats can push the lid open...that also goes for mice and rats and cockroaches. Somehow rats and racoons can also chew through the metal. Believe me, I live in a rural beach area and have seen it happen. Best to get a special heavy plastic container with a heavy duty SCREW-ON top that is MADE for animal food. You can find it on the internet or ask the pet store about it. It costs more then a pretty pail but the savings from wasted and thrown away food is worth it.
