It’s almost inevitable that the band on your favorite watch will one day break or become worn. But rather than ordering a replacement, you can easily fashion your own charming band from a length of pretty ribbon. All you need is a watch with a removable band, fabric glue such as Fabric Tac, a clasp closure, and ribbon (about the same width as the original band).
- Watch with a removable band
- Fabric glue such as Fabric Tac
- Clasp closure
- Ribbon (about the same width as the original band)
Begin by carefully removing the old band with either your fingers or a straight pin, making sure to keep the watch pins intact.
Measure your wrist, add 2 inches, and subtract the length of the closure; cut the ribbon to this measurement (if the ribbon frays, dab the ends with Fray Check). Weave the ribbon behind the face of the watch and through the watch pins.
To attach the closure, separate the clasp into its two parts, and thread the ribbon through one of the clasp’s sides. Fold the ribbon back on itself about 1 inch, and use the fabric glue to secure the clasp in place. Thread the remaining ribbon end through the other side of the clasp, and glue the clasp to the ribbon band
