Mini raffia pom-poms atop bamboo skewers create a stir. Bright-green raffia wrapped around the pitcher provides more texture.
Cocktail Set How-To
1. Make the drink stirrers: Using a pom-pom maker and raffia, make a pom-pom (ours are 1 1/2 inches in diameter). Wrap center with floral wire, twisting wire with pliers to secure. Trim wire to 1/2 inch. Repeat to make more pom-poms, using raffia in different colors.
2. Using white floral tape, attach trimmed wire from each pom-pom to a bamboo skewer. Trim each skewer to desired length.
3. Decorate the pitcher: Cut 2 pieces of double-sided tape (3 inches each). Place halfway down side of pitcher, on opposite sides. Wrap raffia around pitcher and over tape, forming a wide band.

Why the hate? I think these are adorable. I see a fun project for this weekend when my sisters and I get together (I already have the raffia).
What next ? Macaroni necklaces?
Found rafia at Uline.com. Very reasonable. And they will send you a free catalog.
Don't buy a pom pom maker. You can make one from scrap cardboard. Try the instructions here:

can you recommend a source for good raffia?
I've never used a pom pom maker, but I'm sure they have them in just about any craft store. I always use Michael's as my first choice, then go from there if they don't have what I'm looking for.
Where do you get a pom pom maker? have never seen one before?
Well, I suppose if you made these for children then you should be concerned, however, most adults know to move them out of the way, also, if you are still concerned, it is really easy to score the skewer and break them to a length that is shorter than the straw. These will be really fun for Fourth of July Celebrations. Thanks for reprinting this one.
I don't understand the point of these. I would be concerned that a guest would poke the point of the skewer in their face when taking a drink from the straw.
NEAT!
THANKS
