Conan O'Brien, host of NBC's "Late Show with Conan O'Brien," helps Martha create a rustic peg rack out of a white birch branch. You need only a few tools and someone to assist you. And remember, when selecting a branch, look for one that has already fallen off the tree.
Tools and Materials
2-inch-diameter birch branch or other suitable branch
Small pruning shears
Small saw
#6 countersink bit
Two 2 1/2-inch #6 wood screws
Two 3/8-inch wood plugs
Rubber mallet
Twig Peg Rack How-To
1. Select branch, making sure the main branch has several smaller twigs, which will serve as the "peg hooks."
2. Using pruning shears, trim the smaller twigs to 2 to 3 inches. Using a small saw, cut the branch to desired length, and remove any branches on one side (you'll need a flat side to hang the rack).
3. To mount the peg rack vertically, use a countersink bit, and drill one hole near the top of the branch and one near the bottom. Use 2 1/2-inch screws to attach the peg rack to the wall. Using a rubber mallet and wood plugs, cover the screw holes.
