Oriental Poppy Arrangement

The Martha Stewart Show, February 2010

If you're looking to add some Asian flair to your decor, try a tea cup arrangement of oriental poppies.

Oriental Poppy Arrangement How-To
1. If you buy the poppies unopened, remove the beards when they crack open. You can also buy them preconditioned.

2. Place a hairpin frog with floral clay in a tea cup. Fill the cup with water.

3. Cut the poppy stems at an angle, and sear them over a flame to increase the longevity of the blossoms. Add flowers to the cup.

Sowing Oriental Poppies
Oriental poppies can self-sow and flourish in the right zone, as they did at Martha's home in Westport. To get them started, leave poppy pods in the garden after they bloom. As they dry, cut the tops off and shake the seeds around.
