Black Apple Doll
The Martha Stewart Show, March 2008

Great tutorial. I am learning how to sew and was able to follow this tutorial easily. I don't have a printer at home so I made my own pattern based on this one. I embroidered the facial features and added a monogram on the doll's dress. I'm excited to make more for my children. You can see how my doll turned out here: http://www.mylovelylist.blogspot.com/2012/12/doll-making.html
sorry for the duplicate posts below :( My computer was having issues :(
My daughter and I had such a fun time making this doll for her! Thanks for the great tutorial!

Hi!I added this nice tutorial in my blog! www.fioridiflowerland.blogspot.com
Sara
I made a sister for the brother doll :) I enlarged the pattern even more to show that he has a big sister - so fun! If you'd like to see, here's link: http://justmeprints.blogspot.com/2011/10/handmade-christmas-part-2.html
this doll was fun to make! My first attempt was for my son. If you want to see pictures of my boy black-apple-doll, click on over: http://justmeprints.blogspot.com/2011/09/handmade-christmas-part-1.html
Another great stocking stuffer is the TickleMe Plant party favor. In it you easily grow a real house plant that moves and closes its leaves when Tickled! Just search TickleMe Plant or find it here http://www.ticklemeplant.com
Ok!!! I've figured this out for everyone that is having trouble enlarging. It wasn't easy!!! Visit my blog thehandmadehomemaker.blogspot.com and click on the Black Apple Doll Pattern tab. I have downloaded each body part on a separate sheet and they are enlarged to 150%
So aggravated!!! Really want to make this for my niece's birthday but can't figure out how to enlarge!!!!
why can't we print this out? so frustrating!
How do I print with the 150% enlargement it says to do?
You guys are right. You really don't need the template. A simple rag doll template is easy to make. Use your imagination! Martha Stewart is all about crafts, and DOING IT YOURSELF. She gives ideas and suggestions...and, I'm sure, she fully expects you to take those ides and suggestions and 'run with them' ! Make each craft your very own with your own special touches and additions! Have fun with your crafts!
I love the black apple too! with a scraps materials I will make a few dolls, as a party favor for my daugther,s 8 bitrhday, all the dolls will drees and call as my daugther Diana in her party.
Thanks for template,
these dolls are cure. I made my own template a couple a of months ago. Use you mind and make up a doll your self. mine sell like crazy.
Love the little doll but cannot get the template either.....All I get is pages of numbers..am on dial up..help!!! Also the "crafts" page does not fully come up...very frustrating ..

i could not down load the template for the doll // how can i get a copy of the template
I love the Black Apple! Her designs are awesome. I love looking through her Etsy store. I can't wait to try making one of her dolls :)
This project was REALLY simple and fun to do :) I did the face and arm in felt because I did not have cream fabric and it turn out pretty well. I post some pictures of my doll (she's named Anne-Sophie :)) on my blog here : http://carottelychee.blogspot.com/
I just finished making these dolls to use as party favors for my daughter's birthday. They turned out so cute and are really fast to make once you get going. Thanks for the inspiration!
My daughter's and I made these dolls with some of their old, outgrown clothes. They came out great. Plus this was a great compromise with my oldest daughter, who HATES to get rid of anything. Reusing some of her old things, gives them a new life.
These dolls are so easy to make and make great gifts. It's also a nice way to use up little scraps of material.
how wonderful!
my great grandmother taught me to sew as a little girl making dolls like these, and bean bags! glad to see some things never change!
My 7 year old daughter and I made a pair of these dolls, it was the first time she really helped me sew. I even let her sew the heads on (the only bit of straight stitching). She then Stuffed while I sewed.
They look great, when my husband saw the pictures on the website, he was a bit surprised at how alike they looke dto ours. My daughter wants to make a Cruella de Ville version, we will have to do that soon.
I am definitely going to try out these dolls. I now have 3 great-nieces who would love them. To one of the previous comments...I would leave a 1/4" seam allowance, 1/8" might give way.
I did go to Emily's store on etsy.com, but did not see the dolls there for sale. These are charming dolls that I'm sure my granddaughter would love. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful item. readnrose
Congratulations Emily! and thank you Martha for supporting the crafters!

I love the black apple dolls but would love a show on making teddy bear.
