Lorraine Bracco, of the award-winning television series "The Sopranos," joins Martha to create a beautiful beaded wreath. Unlike the fresh cranberry version it resembles, this beaded wreath will never lose its vibrancy. Hang it from a window, a wall, or even a mirror.
Tools and Materials
Flat-head straight pins
Red nail polish
Piece of paper or Styrofoam (optional)
10-inch tubular Styrofoam wreath form
Red seam binding
Ruby druk beads (approximately 800 beads, 200 of each size) in 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, and 12 mm sizes
White craft glue
Double-sided wide satin ribbon
Beaded Wreath How-To
1. Paint the heads of the pins with red nail polish, so the silver tips will not show on the wreath; to complete this step quickly, stick the pins into a piece of paper or Styrofoam, and brush the polish along the pin tops. Let dry completely.
2. Wrap the Styrofoam wreath form with the red seam binding, securing with straight pins at the beginning and end. Be sure the seam binding overlaps slightly to cover the Styrofoam completely.
3. To cover the wreath with beads, slip a bead onto a polish-painted pin, dab the sharp tip of the pin in a dish of craft glue, and push the pin into the wrapped Styrofoam form. Pin the larger beads onto the wreath first, then fill in any gaps with the smaller beads. Cluster the beads so they do not appear to be too evenly spaced. Continue until the front and sides of the wreath are covered with beads. Leave the back of the wreath plain.
4. To make a bow for the wreath, loop an extra-long piece of the satin ribbon around the bottom of the wreath, and tie it in a loose bow, leaving the ends long so they drape naturally. To finish, cut the ends in a V. To hang it, attach a piece of double-sided wide satin ribbon in a coordinating color to the back of the wreath with the flat-head pins.
