News flash -- if you are planning on traveling this holiday season, this is the 'secret week' (well, not so secret anymore) to book your flights before prices increase, according to Orbitz.com.
The website's travel data shows that if you purchase Thanksgiving tickets today, you are likely to pay five percent less than you would any other day in October. If you wait to book until November, you will probably have to pay five percent more. So in this case, it's really not a good idea to wait for a last-minute deal.
And while we're on this topic, the cheapest day to book your Christmas or New Year's Eve flight is also today. So don't procrastinate until December unless you want to spend extra on airfare (who does??!).
A good rule of thumb for booking the best travel deal is to avoid busy airports if possible. According to Orbitz, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is the worst offender when it comes to crowds traveling for Thanksgiving. It is closely followed by Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.
Instead search for smaller airports that are close to those metropolitan areas. Not only will you have to pay a lot less on both legs of your flight, but the security lines at those airports will also be much shorter.
Happy booking, everyone!
