MasterCard Introduces "Selfie Pay" -- Talk About Self Reflection Before Making Purchases

Okay, so it’s really called MasterCard Identity Check. But yes, you will now have to take a selfie to authenticate your purchases.

It’s kind of like Touch ID…but more narcissistic? They claim it’s more convenient and better at preventing fraud. (Beware those dopplegangers…or long-lost twins!) But what if you just hold up a picture to the camera? They thought of that. You have to blink in order for the selfie to count.

The authentication app is being rolled out in: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK. There are plans for it to go worldwide beginning next year. So, get those selfie poses nailed down!
