Baked Cheese Croutons

Serve one of these croutons with our Creamy Tomato Soup.

  • Yield: Makes 6

  • 6 slices (about 1/2 inch wide and 5 inches long) focaccia or other wide bread
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyere, fontina, or Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread slices on a baking sheet, and bake until slightly golden and dry, 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. In a small bowl, combine cheeses, and sprinkle over bread slices. Bake until cheese is melted and bubbling, about 8 minutes. Serve immediately.
