Hot Date

Set the mood with this warm drink spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger.

  • 4 cups milk
  • 7 teaspoons unsulphured molasses
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • Pinch of coarse salt
  • 14 dates, pitted


  1. In a medium saucepan, heat milk, molasses, spices, and salt over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from heat.

  2. Chop dates in a blender as finely as possible. Add about 1 cup milk mixture; blend, scraping down sides to be sure all dates have been pureed.

  3. Strain date mixture through a fine sieve back into pan; whisk over medium heat until well combined. Divide among four cups, and serve immediately.
