Teriyaki Sauce

Upgrade this simple, classic sauce by adding toasted sesame seeds, chopped scallions, sambal oelek, and/or freshly grated ginger.

  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup sake
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch


  1. Combine soy sauce, sake, mirin, and honey in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until honey dissolves. Whisk 1 tablespoon cornstarch into 1/2 cup water; whisk into saucepan. Boil until sauce thickens and reaches desired consistency, about 8 minutes.
