Ladders and Trapezes for Your Christmas Tree

Photography: Katya De Grunwald

materials

  • Metallic cord

  • Hot-glue gun

  • Heavy-duty hole punch (by Martha Stewart Crafts, $15, michaels.com)

steps

  1. Trapeze: Cut a 3-inch length of straw. Thread metallic cord through and tie ends as a hanger. Dab hot glue to secure cord inside straw.

  2. Ladder: Start with 6 straws. Trim end of one to a point, then insert ¼ inch into a second straw, making one longer straw. Repeat with another pair. Cut remaining 2 straws into 2½-inch sections. With hole punch, punch a semicircle into end of each short piece so each end has a concave cutout (to allow pieces to fit neatly against the sides of ladder). Position short pieces between the two long side pieces and hot-glue in place. Hot-glue acrobat figure to ladder and trapeze.
