  • 1 pound cherry plums, rinsed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 14 ounces vodka (1 3/4 cups)

  1. Poke plums with a fork and transfer to a lidded 1-quart jar. Sprinkle with sugar and pour in vodka. Cover with lid and shake. Let stand in a cool, dark place 2 weeks, shaking daily. Plums can be refrigerated in jar up to 6 months.

Cook's Notes

If you can't find cherry plums at your local farmers' market, you can substitute Italian prune plums or small black or red plums and cut them into halves or quarters (no need to poke them with a fork).
