Neapolitan Horchata

Mexican horchata is a refreshing dairy-free drink with a subtle cinnamon flavor; here's an easy version of the classic and two tasty variations.

Classic Horchata

  • 1 cup rice milk
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons agave nectar
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ice, for serving

Strawberry Horchata

  • 1 cup hulled and halved strawberries

Chocolate Horchata

  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped semisweet chocolate


  1. For classic horchata, blend rice milk, agave nectar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth; serve over ice.

  2. For a strawberry version: add strawberries to blender with other ingredients.

  3. For a chocolate version: melt the chocolate and stir into agave before adding to blender.
