Get Wild: Theodore Leaf's Woodland Creature Halloween Costume

When he accepts Martha's "Shriek or Chic" challenge to design an elaborate Halloween costume, stylist Theodore Leaf gets a little "foxy."

What's covered in feathers and leaves and is absolutely wild?

Why, it's Theodore Leaf, one of our favorite stylists! Since he skyrocketed to fame as the youngest contestant on Bravo's "Shear Genius," Theodore has become one of the top stylists in the country. He accepted Martha's "Shriek or Chic" Halloween Makeup Challenge to create an otherworldly look, equal parts terrific and terrifying -- and he definitely aced it with this fantastical woodland creature.

"I decided to start this project by creating a mood board," Theodore says. "I was inspired by this fox image I found. It had these incredible ears and really dark, sort of piercing, scary eyes." Mood board in hand, he used an autumnal color palette (think glittery gold, burnished bronze, and russet brown), earthy textures (moss, feathers, and lots of leaves), and an overall feeling of woodland whimsy with eerie elements (like all-black contact lenses -- shudder!) as a guide when shopping for materials.

Theodore shows us that you don't have to spend a lot of cash on an over-the-top costume. He achieved his dramatic look by thinking out of the box in the crafts store. Watch his tutorial below!
