Dipping apple in honey is a Rosh Hashanah custom (to welcome the sweetness of the Jewish new year). We went one step further, layering apples, honey, and sliced almonds on top of another holiday staple, challah, to make delicious open-faced sandwiches.

- Braided challah loaf
- Thinly sliced apples
- Toasted almonds
For each, cut a braided challah loaf lengthwise; lightly toast, if desired. Drizzle with honey and top with apple slices. Drizzle with more honey and sprinkle with almonds. Cut crosswise into 1 1/2-inch pieces.
