Good Impressions: Creating Two-Tone Charms

Follow these steps to create pendants and charms with real depth.

Italian Brass Design wax seal,

X-Acto Light-Duty knife, $4,

  • Flexible clay mold or wax seal
  • Polymer clay
  • Craft knife
  • Rubber gloves
  • Cookie cutters
  • Fine-point tool

  1. Step 1

If using a mold, fill with clay then shave away excess clay with craft knife until it's flush with mold. If using a wax seal, like the tree, press clay into the seal, then use craft knife to shave away excess clay until flush with metal.

  2. Step 2

Refrigerate for 20 minutes; invert and wiggle mold to free silhouette, or use the tip of knife to pry it out.

  3. Step 3

Center silhouette on 1/16-inch-thick base, and press lightly into place (wear rubber gloves to prevent fingerprints).

  4. Step 4

Cut out border shape with a cutter, create a hole with pointed tool, and bake.

  5. Step 5

Refrigerate for 20 minutes, pry tree from seal with knife and proceed with steps 1 to 4.

  6. Step 6

Add a jump ring to make a pendant.
