Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger
  • Cayenne
  • Honey

Directions

  1. In a mug, stir together water, lemon juice, turmeric, ginger, and cayenne and honey to taste until combined.

    Can anyone tell me how much cayenne pepper to use. The recipe doesn't say.

    My 77 year old mother has been suffering from sciatica for months. She has a herniated disk in her lower back. She began suffering from severe pain in her left leg & was recently diagnosed with sciatica. She was prescribed anti-inflammatory medicine which she's been taking for weeks to no avail. The pain in her leg was becoming debilitating. I've been looking for a natural remedy and came across this recipe. She has been drinking 2 cups a day and within 2 days the pain is gone! Thank You!!

    The drink is delicious. For those who have questioned the health benefits, just Google the scientific research on turmeric alone. In addition to lowering blood pressure and cholestrol, it also relieves nerve pain. My husband started taking it for a severe sciatica problem. It's now gone! He's recommended it to some of his golf partners for their various nerve pains, and they too have found relief. Many great reports about ginger too. Google them while enjoying your Elixir.

    SPICY! Otherwise, it was...interesting. I had to add much more honey and lemon to be able to drink it.

    I also was pleasantly surprised on how much I liked this! For those curious about the health benefits: Hot Water: Serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis- aids w/ digestion. Lemon: High in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings, also aids in digestion. Turmeric: Shown to increase liver function Ginger: Anti-inflammatory properties Cayenne Pepper: stimulates the digestive tract, increasing the flow of enzyme production and gastric juices.

    Originally a friend of mine had taught me a similar recipe that only called for lemon, honey and the cayenne and it was good but lacked flavor for me, THIS however is awesome! I go kinda crazy with the ingredients using more then necessary and make it in large batches, using old bottles to store in the fridge, I also throw all ingredients into a pot (including lemon rind) until water starts steaming, then I strain thru cheesecloth to help with the sediment from spices :D This is a keeper for me

    Surprisingly, this is TASTY! Reminds me of a hot apple cider. Be careful with the cayenne...a little goes a long way. I was shocked when I took my first sip because I really like it.

    I'm impressed with this recipe, it tastes great. I actually had to replace the tumeric with ground mustard, but it tastes good and has a nice bite to it. I know mustard seed has digestion benefits and supposedly helps prevent gastrointestinal cancers, too. I agree with the others, though. I would like to see how this beverage benefits me overall, especially with a name like elixir.

    It is good! I was surprised. I think ginger is good for digestion, and it looks as though turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and has some other healing health benefits as well.
