Crocheted Loofah

A hand-crocheted washcloth (made with fique -- or pineapple -- yarn) takes this gift above and beyond.

Fique fiber, in White and Yellow, $9.50 for 170 yd.,

  • 1 skein fique fiber
  • Scrap in contrasting color
  • Crochet hook, size F

  1. Step 1

    Chain-stitch 32.

  2. Step 2

Row 1: Treble-crochet into fifth chin stitch from hook, then treble-crochet across row. Chain-stitch 4; turn.

  3. Step 3

Continue in treble crochet until you have worked 11 rows. Work should measure 7 1/2 inches.

  4. Step 4

Double-crochet around border, with 4 stitches in each treble row, working 2 double crochets into each corner stitch. For last edge, change to a contrast color if desired, and double-crochet across.

  5. Step 5

At end of last edge, chain 8 and stitch into last stitch to form a loop. Reinforce loop by singlecrocheting into chain.

  6. Step 6

    Snip and weave in ends.

Thank you for clarifying. I can't wait until the supplier gets their stock replenished so I can start this project.

I think the 110z is a misprint. Each skein is 170 yards so 1 skein would be plenty for a loofah.

HI - the directions say 1 skein (11 ounces) but the fique fiber is sold in 1 ounce skeins. Do you really need 11 of them (at $9.50 each) to complete one loofah cloth? Has anyone made this project yet? The supply company is backordered on the fiber right now. Thanks!
