Buckle Up: Leather Belt Projects

Give leather belts a purpose beyond just holding up pants.

Blogger Brigitta Borrevik ( uses them for chic dog beds or straps them around logs on her hearth. We cut them up to use as handles on large floor pillows. (Look for used or inexpensive belts at yard sales, thrift shops, and department stores.)

  • Leather belts

  • Faux-sheepskin rug

  • Bedroom pillows

  • Rivet kit

  • Rotary punch


  1. To add handles to floor pillows, cut an old leather belt into segments and attach them to the pillowcases with a rivet kit.

  2. To make a dog bed, wrap one or two standard bedroom pillows with a faux-sheepskin rug, then secure the bundle with two belts.
